To my knowledge, Kliban designed just a couple of book covers (other than for his own titles) - the first being the "None of the Comforts of Home" by Basil Woon (1967) shown in an earlier posting. The other is this cartoon collection "I Didn't Raise Our Son to Be Soldier" from Playboy Press (1972). I presume the cartoon itself appeared in an early issue of the magazine.

I have a much better photo of this book if you'd like a copy of it. The cartoon on the cover did appear in the February 1966 issue of Playboy.
ReplyDeleteYes please. That would be great. Any details of other rare or unusual Kliban cartoons would be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteChesty Previtt, I'm not sure if I saw this back when you posted -- did I ever send you the photo? I have many more rare Kliban works you might like to see -- please email me if so: b_ojard@hotmail.com
DeleteHa ha, I totally remember this cartoon, but not sure where I saw it. I know my dad had a best of Kliban's work in Playboy book, which I looked at often and puzzled over the meanings of. where did you find all the old ads Kliban designed, I've never seen those? and that amazing Magazine Evergreen! So cool. I wrote a biography of Kliban : https://skeletonsandrainbows.blogspot.com/2016/10/blog-post.html Thanks for posting all this cool stuff!
